A well-planned kitchen remodel can completely change how a home looks, feels, and functions. For this project, Preferred Construction Group transformed a traditional kitchen into a brighter, more open space with warm wood cabinetry, improved storage, and bold black accents.

Where the Kitchen Remodel Started

Before: The refrigerator, range, and microwave shared a compact wall of traditional cabinetry.

The original kitchen featured cherry-toned raised-panel cabinetry, speckled granite countertops and backsplash, and beige tile flooring. The sink was positioned in an angled peninsula that extended into the adjoining living area, while the refrigerator, range, and microwave shared a compact appliance wall.

The remodel went beyond replacing the finishes. The layout was rebuilt to create more usable work surfaces, streamlined storage, and a stronger visual connection between the kitchen and the surrounding space.

Preparing the Space

Opening the walls provided access to the systems supporting the new kitchen layout.

Once the existing kitchen finishes were removed, the open walls provided access to the framing, electrical wiring, and utility connections behind them. This stage gave our team the opportunity to prepare the space for the new cabinetry, appliances, lighting, and kitchen layout.

Although much of this work eventually disappears behind drywall and finished surfaces, it plays an important role in creating a kitchen that functions properly for years to come.

Rebuilding the Layout

New framing established the footprint of the kitchen’s central work area and island. Every measurement had to account for the future cabinetry, countertops, appliances, plumbing, and walking space around the kitchen.

After the rough construction was completed, drywall and surface preparation began to define the new layout. At this point, the kitchen started transitioning from an active construction area into a recognizable living space.

Warm Cabinetry and Practical Storage

Light wood cabinetry brings storage and structure back into the room.

Light wood cabinetry introduces warmth while keeping the room feeling bright and open. A combination of deep drawers, upper cabinets, open shelving, and storage surrounding the refrigerator makes practical use of the available wall space.

Tall black display cabinets provide contrast and create a distinctive focal point between the windows. Their dark finish also connects visually with the black appliances and other accents used throughout the kitchen.

A separate counter area with a beverage refrigerator provides another convenient storage and serving zone without interrupting the primary cooking area.

A Bold Statement Island

Ribbed black paneling adds texture and contrast to the statement island.

At the center of the finished kitchen is a large island wrapped in ribbed black paneling. The textured finish gives the island depth and helps ground the lighter cabinetry and flooring surrounding it.

A bright white countertop with waterfall-style edges creates a crisp border around the dark base, while the built-in sink turns the island into a practical everyday workspace. Pendant lights above the island add warmth and help define it as the center of the room.

Bringing the Design Together

Warm wood finishes and bold black accents come together in the completed kitchen.

The finished kitchen balances warm and cool elements throughout the space. Light flooring and wood cabinetry keep the room welcoming, while black appliances, display cabinets, the range hood, and the island introduce bold contrast.

A light textured backsplash reflects the natural and recessed lighting, helping the kitchen feel open and cohesive. Together, the storage, work zones, and carefully coordinated finishes create a kitchen designed for both everyday routines and time spent with family and guests.
